Word/Dance/Theate
r

Word/Dance/Theater, directed by Cynthia Word, offers performances that are a synthesis of dance, music, text and theater. Each performance provides the audience with layers of images, sound and movement woven around stories of power and significance. The company’s newest work, "My Mother's Gate: Body and Earth," is a wonder-filled exploration of interconnectedness, expressing how body and earth are part of, rather than separate from, each other. People who have seen Word/Dance/Theater in performance call it "evocative," "absorbing," "completely original," "an unforgettable evening of joy and emotion" and "physically and spiritually beautiful.” 01-May-2004 at 8:00

Suzanne Miller-Corso & Katrina Toews

Portraits
A Snapshot of Movements, A Freeze-Frame of Emotions
Dance Artists Suzanne Miller-Corso and Katrina Toews, return to The Jack Guidone Theater to present an evening of dance that portrays events in women's lives. The concert will showcase seven original works. Katrina Toews will premiere two new works. In the first, "ConFiDance", eight women flying, leaping, and pushing each other across the stage demonstrate exhilaration and confidence. The second, "Singularly", is a sensual and spiritual solo created and performed by Toews. Suzanne Miller-Corso created "Three Sisters" (2001) after reading In the Time of Butterflies by Julia Alvarez. This book is based on the lives of four sisters and their struggles and hopes in the Dominican Republic under dictator Rafael Truijillo. The movement in "Three Sisters" represents the feelings and images Miller-Corso encountered while reading the book. "Left Looking For" (2003) explores the idea of waiting for something or someone. We often miss out on our lives because we're so busy waiting for the next event, but what happens while we wait? Three other original works will also be presents as a part of Portraits. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to see dance!
Jack Guidone Theater, Joy of Motion Saturday, May 1 at 8 p.m.
Sunday, May 2 at 7 p.m.
