The U.S. Postal Service has created stamps to honor four great 20th
century American choreographers — George Balanchine, Alvin Ailey, Agnes de Mille and Martha Graham. A special free concert in honor of the first-day-of-issue will feature performances by New York City Ballet, Ailey II, and American Ballet Theater.

The spring gala, broadcast Wednesday on PBS's Live at Lincoln Center, 
highlights NYCB's second week of this portion of its Balanchine Centennial season. This week also includes more performances of Liebeslieder Walzer, Divertimento No. 15, Episodes, Vienna Waltzes, La Valse and The Four Temperaments, as well as the world premiere of Christopher Wheeldon's Shambards. In addition, Noelani Pantastico (soloist) and Olivier Wevers (principal) of the Pacific Northwest Ballet will dance the second movement of Balanchine’s Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet on Sunday. 5/4 at 7:30pm, 5/5-5/7 at 8pm, 5/8 at 2 pm and 8pm, 5/9 at 3pm.

Noemie Lafrance

Lafrance's new site-specific choreography is a cinema-inspired, Noir,
is set in a parking garage. Noir invites the participating audience to view the "on-site" spectacle through the windshield of their parked cars. Performed by five couples, Noir is an adventurous performance that examines themes of suspense and love in narrative through the language of dance. The production is part of the 2004 Whitney Biennial and Danspace Project's Out of Space series.

The Subway Series
Organizers Nancy Duncan and Ivan Sygoda have asked a dance activist in 
four of the boroughs to develop work with city youth that explores issues they face in their day-to-day urban lives and present it on a shared program. Spearheading the creativity of these young New York dancers are Arthur Aviles (Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance), Stephan Koplowitz (The Packer Collegiate Institute, Brooklyn), Abigail Rosin (Groove With Me, Manhattan), and Paz Tanjuaquio (Frank Sinatra School for the Arts High School, Queens).

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theate

This famous company, led by dance legend Judith Jamison, presents two
programs. On the first, performed on Friday evening and Saturday matinee, is comprised of Alonzo King's Heart Song, Elisa Monte's Treading, Robert Battle's Juba, and Alvin Ailey's Revelations. The second, performed on Saturday evening and Sunday matinee, is made up of Dwight Rhoden's Bounty Verses, Donald McKayle’s Rainbow Round My Shoulder, and Revelations. At 5/7 at 8pm, 5/8 at 2pm, 8pm, 5/9 at 3pm.
